Pasko Sa San Pablo

30 Dec 2011, Friday. The girls and I were running late again for yearly family get-together. In my haste I forgot to check the water and oil. The traffic was bad and I was getting anxious as the engine's temperature rose to the red mark. I silently prayed to God to get us through the traffic and let get home safely. Somewhere in Batangas highway the engine went dead. Fortunately it came alive again when I turned the ignition key.

We managed to reach Ate Meriam's house without incident. The girls and I ate a very late lunch. I was feeling so hot the cool swimming pool looked so inviting. By the time I have eaten and rested I abandoned the idea of swimming. We played games, talked, sang and exchanged gifts.

After dinner we slept at our old house in Sambat. We brought along our pillows, blanket and mosquito nets.

Next morning, I filled up the radiator with three containers of water... I was really running dry! Mama had packed some compost and garden soil for our urban edible garden. They were loaded in the Pajero and after breakfast, we said our goodbyes and headed back to Manila. I stopped at Total gas station and had my oil checked. It was alright.

At home, we had lunch. I went to SM Mall and bought a Caramia cake for Emma's New Year's Party. The night would turn out to be Sam's nightmare of a New Year...

Eyeglasses for Sam

Sam kept telling me she needed prescription glasses. I thought she just wanted to look nerdy or to make some kind of fashion statement. I finally agreed and we went to George Optical in SM Mega Mall, had her eyes checked and got her prescription glasses.

My First Step

They say that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

I have decided to take a journey... a very long, daunting and uncertain journey.

But I am not afraid because I will be taking this journey with a very special person, a woman of great fortitude and spirit... Raquel Atienza Tolentino, my beloved mother...
